Where the Crawdads Sing

I finally gave in to the hype and read Where the Crawdads Sing.

Where the crawdads sing is a novel by Delia Owens and my first fiction audiobook. There was so much buzz around this book since there will be a live-action movie coming out in 2022.

About the book

The story is about a girl living in marshland outside of a town in the south. Early on in her life, she is left alone to fend for herself after everyone leaves. Her mother, siblings, and father all leave before she’s about 10 years old. Luckily she has help from a few people that help her scrape by, eventually making a name for herself as an established author/illustrator of marsh wildlife. Within that timeline, she is tried for the murder of her ex-boyfriend and is eventually acquitted of the charges.

My review

My rating of the book is 3.7/5. Overall I enjoyed Where the Crawdads Sing and really enjoyed listening to it. The performer was able to make different voices, in a non-cheesy way. There is a big part of the plot that I felt like they rushed through. I don’t know why, there were plenty of times where she went into great detail about something. I am excited that this book got some recognition in popular culture because it allowed me to find out about it and read it. This was a great book to read as my first fiction audiobook. It made me want to read more fiction and I have one loaded on the kindle that I’m reading next.
