I built a PC

This pandemic hit and I had to try to fill my time with something. We got into mobile games like COD Mobile and that was fun, just tiring on my hands. Then we started watching videos online of vikkstar123 and it looked like a lot of fun.

Around that time my friend Mike was upgrading his video workstation and asked if I could help. We made plans to sell the parts online locally. When I got to his place, he said, “Why don’t you just buy everything from me”? I hadn’t thought of it, but it made perfect sense. I’ve always wanted one and hadn’t pulled the trigger on one so I went for it. I bought his motherboard, processor, CPU fan, and some stick of ram, and I bought everything else from micro center.

I got home and put everything together the same night. I loved working on it and can’t wait to do it again. Of course, I had to troubleshoot and test things and google things along the way. But it was accelerating to accomplish my goal.

Here are my specs:

  • Intel Core i7-8700k 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
  • Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
  • Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
  • Crucial P1 1TB M.2 SSD
  • 2TB 3.5” 7200RPM HDD
  • Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB
  • Corsair CXM 650 W 80+ Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Resources I used:

  • PCpartpicker
  • Linus Tech Tips on YouTube
  • Joey Delgado on Youtube

Now I use my PC to game, edit photos and video and browse the web. It’s nice to have a capable machine to do what I want to do when I want it. It’s been going strong for a year and all I’ve done is add another storage drive in it for backing up photos and video.
